‘Sad Day’: SCOTUS Bump Stock Ruling Sparks Bipartisan Condemnation From NY Politicians
New York politicians wasted no time reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision striking down a federal ban on bump stocks, which allow semiautomatic rifles to fire more quickly. In their 6-3 ruling Friday, June 14, with conservatives in the majority, the high court sided with a Texas gun store owner who surrendered his bump stocks after the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) reclassified the devices as machine guns in 2018. He later sued to get them back. The ATF’s regulation, issued under the Trump administration with his full support, came about after the 2017 Las Veg…

This Heated Hudson Valley Congressional Race Could Be 'Election Night Surprise,' Report Says
New York’s governor’s race isn’t the only political matchup that could end up being closer than expected once all the ballots are counted, according to The Hill. The race to represent the 17th Congressional District - which includes all of Rockland County and portions of central and northwestern Westchester County - could end up being an election night surprise, the outlet said. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, who chairs the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, is facing off against Republican State Assemblyman Mike Lawler in what some believe could be a political bellwether for the 202…

New NY Attorney General Gaining Attention As Powerful New Trump Rival
New York Attorney General Letitia James has been turning as she continues to take the fight to President Donald Trump and his administration. Just months into her first term as Attorney General, James, a Democrat, has “emerged as one of the most aggressive and ambitious litigators in the country,” according to The Hill, citing several lawsuits she has filed against the commander-in-chief. Since taking office, James has launched investigations and probes into Purdue Pharma, the Sackler family, the NRA, and other special interests. She has also taken steps to ascertain Trump’s bank records an…

Defense Fund For Woman Accused Of Bringing Loaded Gun To Area School Moving Slowly
The defense fund for a former teacher’s aide who brought a gun into a Rockland County school is making slow progress. The father of Warwick resident Gillian Jeffords, a former teacher’s aide at the Jesse J. Kaplan School in West Nyack, started a GoFundMe page for his daughter in May, after she was arrested for bringing a gun to the BOCES school. In three months, it has raised just $2,745 of its $20,000 goal from 32 people. “We are seeking support to pay legal bills in relation to a case involving Gillian, who is (was) a concealed carry pistol permit holder, and her pistol on a school campus…

Bill To Remove Guns From Troubled Students' Homes Pushed By Cuomo
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is pushing an “Extreme Risk Protection Order” bill, which would make the state the first in the nation “to empower teachers and school administrators to prevent school shootings by pursuing court intervention.” Under the law, teachers and school administrators would have the power to petition a judge to remove guns from the homes of students deemed troublesome. Family members and law enforcement agencies would also be able to approach the court about the removal of guns from homes. Cuomo said the law would “prevent individuals determined by a court to be likely to…

'It Is Time For Change' Say Carmel Students During Walkout
Students across the country, including those in Carmel, showed their frustration with lawmakers on Wednesday by taking part in the ENOUGH National School Walkout. Two Carmel High School students, Anne Pozner and Taylor Smith, led the way as part of the school's student activists. Following the event, the two said: "The reason for this walkout is to make known to Congress that we will no longer lay quiet as they sit and ignore the obvious need for gun law reform in our nation." Both students said the walkout is a call to action for government officials to do something before anoth…
