Former Firefighter Admits To Role In Major Drug-Ring Case In Area
A former volunteer firefighter in the area has admitted to his role in a conspiracy to sell prescription pills and cocaine. Middletown resident Robert Dunham, 46, a former firefighter in Mechanicstown in Orange County, pleaded guilty on Thursday, April 25 to first-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and conspiracy, both felonies. He reportedly also admitted to his role in selling and distributing cocaine. These Area Towns Rank Highest Upstate For Longest Commutes
Some area residents have among the longest commutes in the state, according to a newly released report. Using data from the U.S. Census, NewYorkUpstate.com compiled the municipalities with the most “super commuters,” a number which has risen 31.7 percent since 2005. According to the report, researchers used "mean travel time to work" data from the U.S. Census, NewYorkUpstate.com ranked the top 50 upstate New York towns, cities and villages where residents have the longest commutes. Route 17M Mobil Station Destroyed By Fire
A Mobil station on Route 17M in Orange County was completely destroyed by a fast-moving fire. Washington Heights Assistant Fire Chief Todd Gray said the fire started around 2:43 a.m. Friday and destroyed everything but the shell of the building. "Everything is gone except for the outside of the building," said Gray. The fire was discovered by a Town of Wallkill police officer responding to a burglar alarm, the department said.
