Showers and thunderstorms will sweep through the region ahead of an approaching cold front. Higher levels of humidity levels will help to ignite the storms Friday, Aug. 4. Rounds Of Thunderstorms Will Bring Relief From Heat, Humidity
Several rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms will lead to relief from the heat and humidity that have gripped the region since the end of last week. But it will remain warm and sticky until after the storms pass through by the end of the workweek. Tuesday, July 21 will be mostly sunny with a high temperature around 90 degrees and heat indices in the low to mid 90s. Projected Rainfall Totals Increase For Storm System Sweeping Through Area
The storm system sweeping through the area is now expected to bring more rainfall than had been predicted. Generally, 1 to just over 2 inches of rain is forecast with locally higher amounts of as much as 3 inches in some spots. The bulk of the rain will fall during the afternoon and early evening hours on Tuesday, Aug. 13 on a mostly cloudy and humid day in which the high temperature will be in the upper 70s. The high-pressure system that resulted in a pleasant weekend will hang around for one more day before it gets stormy. Dry conditions and seasonable temperatures will continue on Monday, Aug. 12, which will be mostly sunny, a bit more humid but again pleasant with a high in the low 80s. With a line of storms approaching the region from the west, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for much of the area. The watch lasts until 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 in Dutchess.
