Hochul Decides On Lieutenant Governor, Reports Say
Kathy Hochul has hit the ground running in her opening two days as New York governor, reportedly choosing her top lieutenant a day after taking office. Hochul, who officially took over from former Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday, Aug. 24, has reportedly tapped State Sen. Brian Benjamin to serve as her lieutenant governor. Some New York lawmakers and the Legal Aid Society are calling for last-minute legislation that would legalize marijuana as the state deals with a multi-billion dollar budget shortfall due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Marijuana has not been legalized in New York -- but soon it will no longer be a crime if you are a possession of smaller amounts. State Senators approved legislation late Thursday, June 20 to decriminalize its use.
