Winter Weather Advisory: Storm Bringing Snow, Sleet Will Cause Slippery Evening Commute A winter storm affecting more than 200 million Americans will sweep through the area, bringing accumulating snow and sleet and causing slippery travel conditions. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Dutchess from 4 p.m.  Wednesday, Feb. 20 until 7 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze are expected. (See image above.) Significant Ice Accumulation From Major Storm Could Lead To Power Outages This Weekend An overnight round of light snow resulted in a coating to up to an inch of accumulation on Friday morning. But that was just a very small taste of what's in store as a major storm the National Weather Service describes as "multi-hazard" comes this weekend.  The storm's biggest threat will be ice, especially north of I-287 and the Merritt Parkway and just south of I-84, where a quarter-inch of ice accumulation is expected. Freezing Rain, Ice: Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Orange County Freezing rain and ice is expected is expected north of I-84 overnight into Saturday morning, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service that includes Orange, Putnam and Dutchess counties. Northern Westchester and Rockland will see rain with freezing rain possible before 11 a.m., then a slight chance of freezing rain and sleet between 11am and noon. The advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. until noon Saturday for Orange and Putnam and from 3 a.m. until 7 p.m. for Dutchess.
