There were more than a dozen new COVID-19 deaths reported in Dutchess this week, as the county continues to monitor more than 600 active cases of the virus.
Thirteen new virus-related deaths were reported in Dutchess this past week, as the death toll rose to 255, while the number of active COVID-19 rose slightly to 1,625, up from 1,622 on Monday, Jan. 4, according to the Department of Health.
Late in November, the county was only monitoring approximately 200 active cases.

The positive COVID-19 infection rate of those tested in the Hudson Valley has dipped slightly, but stayed relatively steady as New York continues combating the new "holiday surge" of the virus.
In the past three days, the positive infection rate in the Hudson Valley rose from 8.33 percent on Monday, Jan. 4, down to 8.18 percent the following day, and back up to 8.21 percent on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
Hospitalizations are down slightly, to 951 in the Hudson Valley, down from 986 earlier this week on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The number represents 0.04 percent of the region's population.

Covid-19: Hudson Valley Positive-Test Rate Increases To 6.9 Percent; Latest County Totals
The Hudson Valley saw the positive rate for COVID-19 testing increase a day after it spiked a full percentage point, according to data released by the state on Saturday, Dec. 5.
The positive testing rate in all focus areas under the state's Micro-Cluster strategy is 6.17 percent, and outside the focus zone areas is 4.59 percent.
Within the focus areas, 54,956 test results were reported Friday, Dec. 4, yielding 3,389 positives. In the remainder of the state, not counting these focus areas, 160,445 test results were reported, yielding 7,372 positives.

Spikes in positive COVID-19 cases in Rockland and Orange County have pushed the Hudson Valley’s infection rate to the highest in New York.
On Monday, Sept. 28, there were 9,948 people tested in the Hudson Valley, with 202 returning positive, bringing the infection rate to 2 percent, ahead of Western New York (1.3 percent), New York City (1.3 percent), and Long Island (1.2 percent).
No other region was above 1 percent as the statewide infection rate rose to 1.3 percent.

COVID-19 cases among children increased dramatically during the second half of August, according to a new study.
Cases in kids went up 17 percent between Thursday, Aug. 13 and Thursday, Aug. 27, according to the report by the Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association.
