The fire occurred in Rockland County on Saturday, Oct. 26, and Sunday, Oct. 27, in Harriman State Park in Hillburn. The Hillburn Fire Department, with the assistance of several fire departments and New York State Park rangers, battled the blaze that consumed acres. Man Drowns In Hudson Valley Lake During Outing With Family A man on an outing with his family at Harriman State Park drowned after jumping into the lake and swimming about 100 feet away. The incident occurred in Rockland County around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, at Lake Sebago in Stony Point. According to Trooper Steven Nevel with the New York State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that Carlos G. Lake Welch Beach and picnic grounds in Harriman State Park in Rockland County will be closed at least through Sunday, July 14, according to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Park officials said an algaecide is being applied to Lake Welch to provide targeted treatment and minimize the spread of the bloom.  Conditions will be reassessed next week to determine when the beach can reopen. 25-Year-Old Drowns After Slipping At Harriman State Park, Police Say A 25-year-old drowned after slipping into a lake at Harriman State Park, state police said. State troopers, along with New York State Park Police, responded to Lake Sebago Beach at the park on Monday, July 27 at about 2:45 p.m. after a report of a drowning. An investigation revealed that seven people were swimming in the lake, according to police. The hiker found the skull on Sunday, Feb. 16, in the Anthony Wayne Recreation Area of the park said New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel. The recreation area is a wooded valley with playing fields and hiking trails in the park which is located in Rockland and Orange counties. Nevel said the skull was part of an ongoing investigation and that additional information could not be released.

ID Released For Man Killed In ATV Accident A man found dead beside an ATV in Harriman State Park by a father and his children, also riding an ATV, has been identified by police. Andrew Columbia, 58, of Suffern, was found around noon on Sunday, Jan. 12, on Regis Court in Suffern, according to Trooper Steven Nevel with the New York State Police. The only access point into the woods for first responders was behind 8 Regis Court in the Village of Montebello. Body Of Man Pulled From Lake In Harriman State Park The body of a possible drowning victim was pulled by dive teams from a lake in Harriman State Park near the border of Rockland and Orange counties on Monday morning. Lake Skannatati in Tuxedo was closed during the search. The man went underwater early Sunday afternoon. Thiells Fire Department divers were called to the scene after the Tuxedo Town Fire Department, Monroe Fire Department, Cronomer Valley Fire Department and  Stony Point Fire Department all responded.
