New Round Of Severe Storms Possible As Cold Front Arrives
This story has been updated. The passage of a cold front will bring with it a chance for a new round of isolated, severe thunderstorms. The storm threat -- about a 50-50 chance for most of the region -- will be late in the morning into the early afternoon on Sunday, June 30, mainly between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The main threat from the storm system will be strong wind gusts and small hail, according to the National Weather Service. A storm system with showers and thunderstorms will bring with it relief from heat and humidity across the area. The workweek will wrap up with another scorcher on Friday, June 28, which will be mostly sunny with afternoon high temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s. (See second image above.) Get set for a pre-Memorial Day weekend splash. A round of strong, isolated storms with gusty winds will sweep through the area later in the afternoon and into the evening on Thursday, May 23. The main time frame for storm activity will be from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Some of the storms could be locally severe, the National Weather Service said in a Hazardous Weather Statement issued early Thursday morning. A round of strong thunderstorms could sweep through parts of the area on a warm and muggy day on Sunday, May 19. It will be partly sunny with a high in the low to mid 70s and an increase in humidity during the day. Get ready for a stormy evening commute on Tuesday.A cold front passing through the area is expected to bring thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, potentially damaging winds with large hail also possible, the National Weather Service says.
