Popular Supermarket Soon Moving To Bigger Location In Northern Westchester
A popular supermarket is moving to a larger nearby location later this summer in Northern Westchester. Long Island-based Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace plans to open a new location at the Yorktown Green Shopping Center at 329 Downing Drive in Yorktown Heights in August, representatives announced. The space, formerly housing Food Emporium, sat empty for more than 10 years until the specialty grocer began renovations. Supermarket Planning Move To Bigger Location In Northern Westchester
One of Northern Westchester's favorite grocery stores is on the move after outgrowing its current home. Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace in Yorktown has applied with the town to move into the large space provided by the former Food Emporium located in Yorktown Green. The old Food Emporium's 45,000 square foot space has been sitting empty for more than 10 years and would offer about 10,000 additional square feet compared to their current location. One of the most prominent vacant commercial sites in Northern Westchester could be getting a multi-million dollar facelift to transform it into a massive mixed-use building. A proposal to transform Yorktown Green into a mixed-use development featuring 150 apartments, ground-level retail locations, and a new supermarket was introduced to the Town Board this week to much fanfare. Kmart In Yorktown Heights Closing Its Doors
The Kmart in Yorktown Heights in the Yorktown Green Shopping Center is closing its doors in mid-December, according to store officials. "After careful review, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Kmart store in Yorktown Heights," said company spokesman Larry Costello. "The liquidation sale is expected to begin in mid-September and the store is planned to close by mid-December. We encourage customers to continue shopping on Kmart.com for all their product needs."
