A “concerning note” led to the closure of two schools in the Hudson Valley after it was found on a school bus. In Dutchess County, Wappingers Central School District Superintendent Dwight Bonk issued an alert advising that Fishkill Plains Elementary School and John Jay High School would be closed on Friday, Jan. 28 due to the disconcerting note. A multi-million dollar project to improve safety at a busy Dutchess County intersection has been completed. The New York State Department of Transportation announced that crews have completed a $2.9 million project to reduce congestion and enhance safety at the intersection of Route 376 and Robinson Lane/Lake Walton Road in East Fishkill. A former elementary school teacher in the area who resigned amid child pornography charges has admitted to the crime. Steven Schwartz, 54, was indicted in May on seven counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child Dutchess County. This week, Schwartz pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a sexual performance by a child and is expected to be sentenced to 10 years probation and may receive jail time when he is sentenced on Feb. 5.
