Capital Region Water Park Fined $38K For Violating Federal Labor Laws With Teen Employees
A water park in the region will have to pay nearly $40,000 in fines for violating federal child labor laws with dozens of teenage employees. Greene County’s Zoom Flume Water Park, located in East Durham, was the target of investigation by the Albany district office of the US Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division in 2022. The agency found that the water park allowed 35 15-year-old lifeguards to work with prohibited equipment at the top of elevated, power-driven water slides between July 2021 and July 2022. An ex-con from the region who spent years in prison could live out his days behind bars after getting caught again with child pornography. Greene County resident Gregory Kurzajczyk, age 76, of East Durham, was found guilty of multiple counts of child pornography possession after a three-day jury trial in Albany federal court Wednesday, Oct. 25. Kurzajczyk was on federal probation for prior child pornography convictions when a routine check of his East Durham home turned up multiple unauthorized computers and devices in February 2022, according to prosecutors. A 25-year-old man from the region is facing sex crimes charges after allegedly sexually abusing a young child. Greene County resident Kenneth Ball, of East Durham, was arrested Friday, June 9, following a joint investigation by New York State Police and Greene County Child Protective Services. According to investigators, Ball was found to have engaged in sexual conduct with a child under the age of 11. Pickup Truck Driver Had BAC Three Times Legal Limit In Crash With Tractor-Trailer, Police Say
A motorist was driving with a blood-alcohol concentration more than three times the legal limit when his pickup truck crashed into a tractor-trailer in the area, police say. The crash happened around 6:40 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 on Route 32 in Ulster County, Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra said. A police investigation revealed that 23-year-old Robert T.
