An ex-convict wanted for missing mandated sessions with his parole officer was apprehended by police after they recovered a backpack he tossed aside, filled with an illegal firearm and "large quantity" of narcotics, while he was pursued by law enforcement, police said.
Police said a City of Newburgh detective allegedly spotted Alberto Rivera, of Newburgh, 25, who the detective knew was wanted by authorities, riding a bicycle on Broadway on Friday, Oct. 1 at approximately 1:25 p.m.

An NYPD officer and two co-conspirators, all from Long Island, are facing charges for their alleged roles in a drug trafficking scheme, authorities announced.
Officer Joseph Recca, 28, of West Islip, and two others were arraigned on Wednesday, July 22, Suffolk County officials said. They were arrested the day prior during a traffic stop.
Recca, Michael Sosa, of Brentwood, and Michael Corbett, of West Islip, are facing charges that include conspiracy, drug sales, and drug possession.

A 47-year-old woman is behind bars after police responded to a hotel for a report of a dispute.
The incident took place around 12:22 p.m., Thursday, May 7, in Sullivan County when members of the Monticello Police responded to a report of a dispute at the Inn at Monticello, said Monticello Police Lt. Mark Johnstone.

Two area men have been sentenced to prison in connection with the fentanyl overdose deaths of four people.
Frank Moss, aka "Jigga," a Poughkeepsie drug dealer who sold fentanyl to two women who later died, was sentenced to almost 22 years in prison, said Geoffrey S. Berman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

An area man has admitted to his role in selling large amounts of crack cocaine in and around Ulster County.
Ellenville resident Iqwan Mandiville, 26, who was arrested in March along with several others, has pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiring to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute drugs.
In pleading guilty, Mandiville admitted to selling drugs between May and December last year with his co-conspirators. He admitted to selling more than 100 grams of crack cocaine in Ellenville.
