A husband and wife will avoid jail after admitting fault in a fire at their New York vacation rental that killed two sisters.
On Long Island, Peter Miller, age 56, and Pamela Miller, age 55, were each sentenced to community service in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the deaths of Lindsay and Jillian Wiener, CBS New York reports.
The 19-year-old Lindsay and 21-year-old Jillian, both of Potomac, Maryland, were vacationing with their brother and parents at the Millers’ Noyac home when the blaze broke out on the morning of Aug. 3, 2022.

A Hudson Valley woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for starving to death a 7-year-old boy in her care.
Orange County resident Leticia Bravo, age 40, of Newburgh, was sentenced on Tuesday, June 21 after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death of Peter Cucuas.
In addition to the 15 years, Bravo will also serve five years post-release supervision, said Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.

Area Dad Who Left Twins In Hot Car Won't Testify If Case Goes To Grand Jury, Lawyer Says
The attorney for a Hudson Valley dad who left his 1-year-old twins in a hot car in July, causing both of their deaths, said his client will not testify if the matter is sent to a grand jury.
Attorney Joey Jackson made the comment following a brief hearing on Thursday, Oct. 24, where prosecutors told Rockland resident Juan Rodriguez, of New City, that the matter had not been presented to a grand jury and the case was once again adjourned until Dec. 5.
