Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said an employee at Voorheesville Elementary School discovered a cell phone that was recording people in a staff bathroom on Tuesday, April 9. A sheriff in New York is crediting recent jailhouse security upgrades for busting an inmate who allegedly tried smuggling in razor blades. The stomach-churning discovery was made Wednesday, March 20, inside the Albany County jail in Albany. Sheriff Craig Apple said the inmate was returning to the facility after pleading guilty to a weapon possession charge when he went through a body scanner meant to detect dangerous contraband. Nearly Dozen ‘Ghost Cars’ With Phony, Switched Plates Removed From Capital Region Streets
With no way to track them, they’re the perfect mode of transportation for would-be criminals. Nearly a dozen so-called “ghost cars” – those with either phony or switched license plates – were removed from Albany city streets on Friday, Feb. 23, according to Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple. Police in the region are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who was caught on dashcam video stealing a cargo van. The Albany theft was reported by sheriff’s officials Monday, Oct. 23. A dash-mounted camera was rolling as the man, seen wearing a long-sleeve checkered shirt and baseball cap, jumped into the van as it was parked outside an Albany business. A sheriff’s office employee in the region is facing criminal charges after allegedly embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from the department.
