Only a few days after a freakish storm system brought historic flooding to the Hudson Valley, severe weather is unleashing more destruction, resulting in over 10,000 people being left without power as of late Friday morning, July 14.
The outages were caused by several rounds of severe thunderstorms that arrived in the region on Thursday night, July 13, and continued into Friday, bringing downpours, gusty winds in excess of 55 miles per hour, and even one-inch hail in some cases, according to the National Weather Service.

In Columbia County, North Chatham Fire Department Chief Brent Gawron died Saturday, May 13, at his home in the hamlet of Malden Bridge, according to a GoFundMe campaign created the following day.
“Brent passed away last night in a tragic accident at home,” reads the campaign. “This loss is unimaginable for us all but especially for his wife, Erinn and their two daughters, Lucy and Penelope.”

App Leads To Teen Car Thief, 'Violent Struggle' With Cops In Capital Region, Police Say
They say there’s an app for everything, and that includes catching car thieves.
Police in Columbia County were called at around 3:45 p.m. Thursday, May 4, with reports that a woman’s SUV had been stolen in Hudson, near Warren and 5th streets, according to Hudson Police.
Fortunately for the victim, she has an app on her phone that allowed investigators to track the vehicle right to the suspect’s doorstep.
Using the app, officers found the vehicle approximately four blocks away, near Columbia and 1st streets, where they identified the suspect as Darrick Sanchez, age 18, of Hudson. …
