One of the Hudson Valley's top elected officials is throwing his hat in the ring as he takes a run at a seat in Congress.
Republican Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro has filed to be a candidate in the race for New York’s 19th Congressional District, challenging incumbent first-term Democratic Rep. Antonio Delgado.
The district includes parts of the Hudson Valley and Catskills, including portions of Dutchess, Columbia, Delaware, Greene, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan, and Ulster counties and parts of Broome, Montgomery, and Rensselaer counties.

Hurricane Henri: State Of Emergency Declared For 24 NY Counties
A State of Emergency has been declared for 24 counties in New York State as Hurricane Henri threatens to make landfall on Long Island Sunday morning, Aug. 22.
The storm, which is expected to be near hurricane strength when it makes landfall, is forecast to affect coastal areas with dangerous storm surge, as well as heavy rainfall, dangerous surf conditions, and widespread power outages.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Effect For Parts Of Region With Strong Winds, Tornadoes Possible
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has now been issued for parts of the region.
It lasts until 11 p.m. Monday, June 21, and covers Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Greene, Albany, Columbia, Delaware, Otsego, Rensselaer, and Schenectady counties in New York, Litchfield County in Connecticut, and Berkshire County in Massachusetts.
Torrential rainfall is possible during storm activity. Large hail of 1 inch in diameter or greater, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado or two are the main threats, said the National Weather Service, which issued the watch.

Woman Accused Of Eating Cocaine During Traffic Stop In Area, State Police Say
An area woman was arrested by state police after being stopped for a traffic violation was allegedly found eating cocaine in order to destroy evidence.
Brigid Fonda, age 54, was arrested on Thursday, June 10, after being stopped in Columbia County on Route 9 in Livingston in her 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a violation, said Trooper AJ Hicks.
When troopers approached the vehicle, they discovered she was in possession of seven grams of cocaine.
When the drugs were discovered, Hicks said Fonda, of Livingston, attempted to eat the drugs and then resisted arrest.
