A 29-year-old man will spend years in federal prison for leading a cocaine trafficking ring that saw bricks of the drug pour into the region from Puerto Rico. Rensselaer County resident Jan Lopez-Colon, age 29, of Troy, was given a 10-year sentence in federal court in Albany on Monday, Aug. 22. It came after he admitted to working with three others to have over 11 pounds of cocaine shipped from Puerto Rico to the Capital Region between June and December 2021, according to the US Attorney’s Office in the Northern District. Capital District Father, Son Indicted For Cocaine Conspiracy
A father and son from the Capital District are facing years in prison for allegedly trafficking in cocaine. Jeffrey Civitello Sr., age 50, and Jeffrey Civitello Jr., age 22, both of Schenectady, were indicted on federal charges of trafficking kilograms of cocaine, according to the US Attorney’s Office in the North District. Federal prosecutors claim the duo worked with others to traffic more than 5 kilograms of the drug to Schenectady in March and April 2021. Seven alleged drug traffickers are facing decades to life in prison after being indicted in White Plains federal court for their roles in pushing cocaine in Orange County. A Hudson Valley man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for trafficking cocaine out of a Fairfield County hotel.
