20-Year-Old Killed After Car Crashes Into Tree, Becomes Engulfed In Flames, Police Say
A 20-year-old passenger was killed in a fiery single-car crash overnight.
It happened at around 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8 in Dutchess County on the Shunpike between Route 44 and Kennels Road in the town of Washington.
The car, a Toyota sedan, went off the roadway and into the tree, before becoming engulfed in flames, State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks said.
An initial investigation revealed James M. Ruiz, 28, of Amenia, was operating the Toyota sedan went it went off the roadway for unknown reasons.

Seen Them Or Their Car? Alert Issued For Missing Woman, Man From Area
A pair of adults have gone missing in the area and New York State Police are asking the public's help in locating them.
Dutchess County residents Loretta M. Meanen, 87, and Claude L. Epstein, 69, of Amenia, were en route to Alabama (the Pell City area) and were expected early in the day on Tuesday, Dec. 10, State Police from the Dover Plains barracks said. Neither Meanen nor Epstein owns a cellular device, police added. They were last seen on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Meanen and Epstein were operating a gray 2016 Ford Focus, four-door sedan bearing NY registration HZK5475.

Dutchess County Man Killed In CT Crash
A 53-year-old Dutchess County man was killed over the weekend in a motorcycle crash in Connecticut.
Jon Morey, of Amenia, was killed around 6:37 p.m., Saturday, July 27, after failing to negotiate a turn on Mitchelltown Road in the town of Sharon, said the Connecticut State Police.
According to a state police investigation, Morey was ejected from his motorcycle and hit a wire rope guardrail.
His passenger, Tanja Kraft, of Pine Plains, received minor injuries.
Morey was transported to Sharon Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

These Hudson Valley Towns Rank Among Highest In State For Most Black Bears Taken In 2018
Hunters in the Hudson Valley were among the most proficient in taking bears, according to the DEC’s Black Bear Harvest summary.
During the 2018-2019 hunting season, New Yorkers hunted down 1,295 black bears statewide, a decrease of 125 from the previous year.
Of the bears that were hunted, 349 were killed by bow, 66 were killed by a muzzleloader and 11 were taken by youth hunters. In the Southern Zone, 804 bears were killed, 60 percent of which were male, and 491 bears were killed in the Northern Zone.
