At Monday's Board of Education meeting, the district announced it had reduced its tax levy by two percent for the 2017-2018 school year. It is the third year in a row Pawling is seeing a tax levy decrease. Spending decreased 1.13 percent.
Neysa Sensenig, Assistant Superintendent of Finance at Pawling said the district received an increase in state aid and a decrease in enrollment. The district also finalized a Payment In Lieu Of Taxes agreement with The Hamlet at Pawling, a new housing development that opened 18 months ago.
The district has also seen several retirements over the past few years, Sensenig said.
"We're all doing a good job," Sensenig said. "We're doing a lot of good things in Pawling. We're going to do our best to keep moving in the right direction."
