DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Christina Ryba defeated Norman Massry for the 3rd Judicial District of the state Supreme Court, which covers Dutchess County, on Tuesday.

Ryba, 39, ran on the Democratic, Independence and Working Families ballot lines.

The position of justice for the 3rd Judicial District of the state Supreme Court carries a 14-year term and pays $174,900 annually, according to The Poughkeepsie Journal. The state Supreme Court 3rd Judicial District stretches through Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Schoharie, Sullivan and Ulster counties, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.

Cases heard in state Supreme Court include civil matters, divorce and separation, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.
