Woman Charged With Stealing, Forging Checks From Amenia Business

AMENIA, N.Y. -- A Millerton woman faces forgery charges after an Amenia business reported the theft of several checks, state police said.

Madison L. Marshall, 25, was arrested on Tuesday, Dec. 8, and charged with second-degree forgery and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, both Class D felonies, police said.

State troopers had been contacted on Thursday, Dec. 3, by the Armenia resident reporting the theft.

The checks -- forged and cashed at various businesses throughout Dutchess County -- amounted to $2,700, police said.

Marshall was arraigned in the Town of Amenia Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail, or $20,000 bond.

She is to appear in the Amenia Court on Friday, Dec. 11.
