Police Investigate Fatal Car, Pedestrian Crash Involving Poughkeepsie Man

WAPPINGER, N.Y. – Authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian–car collision that occurred on Route 9 in Wappinger.

At approximately 11 p.m. Sunday, Christian Munoz, 40, of Yorktown, was traveling southbound on Route 9 when he struck Brian Phillips, 26, of Poughkeepsie, after Phillips stepped of the sidewalk onto Route 9, according to the New York State Police.

A second southbound vehicle driven by Julio Garcia, 34, of Croton-Hudson, also struck Phillips, officials say.

Phillips was subsequently pronounced deceased by a Transcare paramedic, according to the report.
