Officer Raul Munoz was on patrol on the south sidewalk midspan around 5:30 p.m. when he noticed the man “with his hands and one leg over the railing preparing to jump,” Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

The man wrestled with him a bit, but Munoz pulled him onto the sidewalk.

He continued fighting, trying to get back over the rail, when Officer William Burke arrived and helped Munoz handcuff him.

The man told the officers “he was having a bad day,” Coleman said.

The man, who has no immediate address and was wanted on two outstanding warrants of Newark and Blooomfield, was taken to the secure unit of Bergen Regional Medical Center for an evaluation, Coleman said.
