Robert J. Sheehan, 56, of Millerton was charged with DWI, reckless endangerment, and various traffic tickets after troopers from the Wappinger barracks were dispatched to a two-car hit-and-run auto accident that occurred on Interstate 84 in the area of Route 52, said Trooper Melissa McMorris.
When troopers arrived on scene they interviewed tow truck driver, Joseph J. Senese, 33, of Milford, Pa., who reported he was driving his 2004 Peterbilt tow truck eastbound when a man driving a black Mercedes passed his tow truck on the shoulder of the roadway and slammed on his brakes as Senese attempted to exit I84 at exit Route 52. Unable to avoid the collision, Senese struck the Mercedes in the rear, McMorris said.
Following the accident, Senese and Sheehan got into a verbal argument, before Sheehan got back into his car and struck Senese who was standing in front of the Mercedes trying to take a picture of its license plate. He then sped away from the scene, she added.
Senese was evaluated by responding EMS and declined further medical treatment.
Sheehan was located on the Taconic State Parkway by Stormville patrols and found to be intoxicated. He was charged with DWI and is scheduled to appear in Town of East Fishkill Court on Jan. 4.
He was then turned over to troopers from the Wappinger barracks and was charged with reckless endangerment. He is due to appear in Town of Fishkill Court, on those charges, also on Jan. 4.
