Roger said the unidentified man lost control of his paraglider and crashed on top of the mountain.

It took firefighters more than five hours to recover the man's body from the top of the mountain, he added.

Working with the New York State Park Police, the New York State Police, the Lakeville Hose Company and the Salisbury Rescue Company, both from Connecticut, the team had to climb and use all-terrain vehicles to reach the man, Roger said.

"There was not a place for the state police helicopter to land so rescuers used a series of ropes, harnesses, and ATVs to bring his body down the mountain," he said.

Roger said the area is a favorite for paragliders and hang-gliders on weekends and good-weather days.

Brace Mountain is part of the southern Taconic Mountains, that stands 2,311-feet at its main summit in Dutchess County.
