The new concourse was specially designed to connect Westchester Medical Center with the 280,000-square-foot Ambulatory Care Pavilion, which is currently under construction on WMC's Valhalla campus. The eight-story Ambulatory Care Pavilion is the largest healthcare construction project in Westchester County since the construction of Westchester Medical Center’s main tower in 1977, and is slated for completion in 2018.
The newly opened addition more than doubles the size of the main lobby and offers a soothing environment for all guests who visit the hospital. The 13,200-square-foot concourse contains stainless steel accents, tri-colored terrazzo floors, curated art, energy efficient lighting and coordinated colors and textures. Warming lamps and an outdoor waterfall wall also greet visitors as they approach the hospital's valet station. Once inside, guests can browse a new boutique-style gift shop, enjoy a meal at the renovated Au Bon Pain Bakery and Café or relax in the 1,800-square-foot Caregiver Center.
Designed as a private retreat for families of patients, the Caregiver Center provides access to advocacy services, emotional and spiritual support and relaxation therapies such as yoga and Reiki. The center also contains on-site amenities such as computers, showers, charging stations and refreshments.
WMC is the region’s Level I trauma center, therefore approximately 50 percent of patients admitted are in an emergency situation. That's why during these times of crisis, the new main concourse and Caregiver Center are designed to provide the highest quality care to not only patients, but their loved ones as well.
