Rhinebeck Bagels Café Ranks Among DVlicious Bagel Finalists

RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- It’s impossible to live here and not have a bagel opinion. The New York area, as everyone knows, is the bagel capital of the world. And yes, it’s worth waiting in line on a Sunday morning to get one of these doughy wonders fresh out of the oven. Toasting, as a bagel purist knows, is not necessary when you buy the very best.

We asked for your favorites and now have three contestants in the running. Each is being profiled this week as part of our ongoing DVlicious contest. Here’s the lowdown on one who made the cut.

Rhinebeck Bagels Café : 31 West Market St., Rhinebeck, (845) 876-8025

What Makes Them Bagelicious: The family-run shop has bagels that are soft and fluffy with light, crispy crusts. They have gluten-free bagels, too. And it’s no surprise that, at a place where employees sport shirts that say: “Enjoy Life. Eat Bacon” that the bacon that goes on their bagel (and other bread-type) sandwiches – with names like Slammer and Madison Avenue -- get that extra, added touch, in this case, pesto sauce.

Crazy Flavors: The farm-fresh ingredients in their cream cheese spreads like ramps -- an en vogue veggie that is delicate, yet a little more garlicky than a scallion – and the raspberries from northern Dutchess’s Migliorelli Farm (in season). Strawberry-Nutella spread is also a crowd pleaser.

Reminder: The contest ends Monday, April 25 at 5 p.m. You can vote multiple times, albeit once per day.
