Magliato is one of the few female cardiothoracic surgeons in the world and is currently on staff at Saint John’s Medical Center in Santa Monica, Calif.
Her personal and professional successes tie into the ATHENA Leadership Model, which works to further the development of today's women leaders. In the annual event, women are nominated for the Chamber's distinction based on a variety of criteria, including career excellence and leadership, community volunteer involvement and willingness to serve as a mentor to women in the business community.
In addition to her surgical work, Magliato is the founder, chief executive officer, chief medical officer, and chair of the board of Cordex Systems Inc., a private company that is working to develop a diagnostic cardiovascular medical device which she has patented. Her interest in promoting cardiac health for women also led her to become the first woman to serve as president of the board of the Greater LA County American Heart Association. Her memoir, “Heart Matters,” was published in 2010 and was made into a medical drama on NBC in 2015.
The ATHENA Awards reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m on Thursday, Nov. 30 at Villa Borghese in Wappingers Falls. Tickets for the reception are $65 per person.
