The collision occurred on Sunday, March 9, at around 3:45 p.m., when troopers responded to a report of a crash on Route 52 in Fishkill, according to New York State Police.

According to State Police, the Fishkill Police patrol car was traveling west on Route 52 with its lights and sirens activated. At the same time, 20-year-old Askya R. Paulin of Beacon, who was also traveling west with one passenger, was overtaking other vehicles that were yielding to the emergency lights, authorities said.

Police say Paulin then tried to make a left turn across the westbound lane into the eastbound lane, putting the vehicle in the path of the oncoming police car, which collided with the driver's side of Paulin’s vehicle.

Paulin was issued tickets for vehicle and traffic violations following the crash.

All three individuals involved—including Paulin, the passenger, and the Fishkill officer—suffered minor injuries, police said.
