Drunk Driver Barrels Into Suffolk Art Show, Narrowly Missing Security Guards, Police Say
An alleged drunk driver tore through the heart of Long Island's art community, destroying tents and artwork, and narrowly avoiding tragedy.
The harrowing incident happened at the Montauk Art Show, located at Carl Fisher Plaza, at around 3 a.m. Sunday, June 29.
A “heavily intoxicated woman” in an SUV sped through a barricade and crashed into several tents set up for the show, witness Evan Reinheimer recounted on a GoFundMe campaign.
“Some artists lost EVERYTHING,” Reinheimer wrote, adding that two security guards narrowly escaped injury.

Man Killed In Parking Lot, 21-Year-Old Charged With Murder: Suffolk County Police
A man was found shot dead in a Brentwood parking lot, and a 21-year-old is now charged with his murder, Suffolk County Police announced on Tuesday, June 24.
Alex Reyes, of Brentwood, was arrested late Monday night, accused of killing Alexander Velasquez in a lot at 159 Clarke Street around 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, according to a police update.
Officers responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive man lying in the parking lot. Velasquez, 46, of Central Islip, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His death was deemed criminal.

A man stormed into a church service and shattered two religious statues, Nassau County Police announced on Monday, June 16.
Aldo Hernandez, 26, of Colonial Avenue in Mineola, allegedly burst into Corpus Christi Church at 155 Garfield Avenue around 5:02 p.m. on Sunday, June 15. According to detectives, Hernandez became irate during the service and caused a scene before heading toward the altar.

Officer Injured By Woman Dining And Dashing On Long Island, Police Say
A Long Island woman allegedly skipped out on a meal and injured a police officer who tried to arrest her in Hicksville, authorities announced on Wednesday, May 28.
Ruoqiong Shi, 29, of Plainview, ordered and ate at Potasia, a restaurant on 600 S. Oyster Bay Road, around 3:50 p.m., but left without paying, Nassau County detectives said.
