Potential Airbag, Seat Belt Failures Prompt Recall Of 80K+ Kia SUVs Kia is recalling more than 80,000 hybrid and electric SUVs due to wiring issues that could prevent airbags and seat belts from properly deploying, officials said. Kia issued the recall for about 80,255 Niro EV, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), and Hybrid vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. The recalled Niros are from the model years 2023 to 2025. The NHTSA said the recall is due to a defect in the floor wiring assembly beneath the front passenger seat. The issue could increase injury risks in a crash because airbags or seal belts may not work correctly. …

1 Seriously Injured In Overnight Ronkonkoma Crash One person suffered severe injuries in an overnight Long Island crash. It happened around 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in Ronkonkoma. A 60-year-old Ronkonkoma man was driving a 2015 Kia sedan southbound on Ocean Avenue when the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street at the intersection of Johnson Avenue. The pedestrian, a 35-year-old man from Daly City, California, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.  The driver of the Kia was not injured. Man Killed After Being Struck By SUV Overnight In Mastic A man was killed after being struck by an SUV on a Long Island roadway overnight. It happened around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, in Mastic. A 74-year-old Mastic woman was driving a 2019 Kia SUV southbound on Mastic Road, near Dover Avenue, when the vehicle struck the man riding a bicycle traveling southbound. The bicyclist, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.  The driver of the Kia was not injured.
