Air Quality Alert: Widespread Smoke From Canadian Wildfires Lingers Throughout Region
An Air Quality Alert is in effect for much of the Northeast as smoke drifting south from more than 400 Canadian wildfires lingers. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of fine particulates, according to the National Weather Service. "The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern," said the weather service. Massive Hudson Valley Wildfire Believed To Be Ignited By Lightning Strike Spreads To 150 Acres
Gov. Kathy Hochul has deployed the New York Army and Air National Guards to help extinguish a Hudson Valley wildfire at a state park that has grown from 30 acres to between 130 and 150 acres. Located in Ulster County, the fire, known as the Napanoch Point Fire in the Minnewaska State Park in Ellenville, was believed to have started on Saturday, Aug. 27 by a lightning strike. 30-Acre Wildfire Believed To Be Ignited By Lightning Strike Breaks Out At Park In Hudson Valley
A lightning strike is believed to have started a large 30-acre Hudson Valley wildfire at a state park that is still burning.
