CT Investigating Hanging Death Of NY Man While In Police Custody State investigators are probing the in-custody death of a 36-year-old man who died while being held at the Stamford Police Department.  The Office of Inspector General, in collaboration with Stamford police, confirmed that Jamal Linton was found unresponsive in his cell on Sunday evening, Jan. 26, hours after being arrested on multiple charges, including second-degree assault and strangulation.  Linton, who was being held on a $75,000 bond, was discovered at approximately 5:42 p.m., appearing to have hanged himself, authorities said. Rensselaer County resident Ian Hasselwander, age 24, of Petersburgh, was found guilty of murder and related charges by a Rensselaer County jury on Wednesday, July 24, in the death of Morgan Bates. The 20-year-old Cambridge Central High School graduate was found dead in Cherry Plain State Park, along Black River Road in Stephentown, on Feb. 27, 2022 a week after relatives reported her missing. Son Slices Hudson Valley Mother's Throat Trying To Kill Her, Police Say A man is behind bars after allegedly slicing his mother's throat in an attempt to kill her in the region, police said. The attack took place in Ulster County in Ellenville around 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21 on Roslyn Street. According to Capt. Daniel Waage of the Ellenville Police, police responded to the home on a report of a domestic incident. 28-Year-Old Chokes Woman Unconscious At Capital Region Home, Police Say An altercation inside a home in the region ended with a woman being choked unconscious, police said. Deputies in Saratoga County were called at around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, for a welfare check at a home in Clifton Park located on Huntridge Drive, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators determined that Matthew Sand, age 28, choked the victim “with the intention of impeding her normal breathing or blood circulation,” causing her to lose consciousness. Capital District Man Accused Of Assaulting, Strangling 1-Year-Old A Capital District man is facing charges after allegedly becoming so violent with a 1-year-old that he strangled the child. Saratoga County resident William Burden, age 30, of Ballston, was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 9, after someone reported the alleged incident to police.
