Fatal Shooting Leads To Standoff With Police In Capital Region Police in the Capital Region were engaged in an armed standoff with the suspect in a fatal shooting Friday evening, Sept. 30, NewsChannel 13 reports. Police in Albany were called to the 400 block of Hamilton Street just before 4 p.m Friday with reports of a shooting, Albany Police spokesperson Steve Smith said. Nearly an hour later, Smith said the victim had died and the shooting was being investigated as a homicide. Black Bear Removed From Tree In Capital District Park Authorities removed a black bear that climbed up a tree in a Capital District park Tuesday, May 31. The bear was first spotted wandering in Albany through Washington Park, near State Street and Sprague Place, at around 5:30 a.m., according to Albany Police spokesperson Steve Smith. Officers eventually spotted the animal in a tree, prompting the closure of State Street from Sprague Place to Henry Johnson Boulevard, Smith said.
