A man from the region is facing drug and weapons charges thanks to an anonymous tip to police. In Rensselaer County, Richawn McClain, age 25, of Troy, was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 9. Troy Police officers were called to the area of River and Rensselaer streets after someone submitted an anonymous tip on the agency’s website reporting suspicious activity. A routine traffic stop in the region ended with a 20-year-old in handcuffs on weapons charges. The Saratoga County incident happened just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, in Halfmoon on Tower Way. Prop Movie Money Used By NY Woman To Steal Car, Police Say
A woman from the region is accused of pulling a fast one on a car seller by using counterfeit money to steal their vehicle. State Police in Rensselaer County said troopers were first contacted in July 2023 by a Troy resident claiming that a woman had tried to purchase their car using fraudulent money. The woman allegedly gave the victim multiple counterfeit bills in exchange for a car that had been listed on Facebook Marketplace. An 18-year-old from the region could spend years behind bars after being busted with a machine gun. Rensselaer County resident Ahmed AlSaadi, of Troy, pleaded guilty to weapons charges in Albany federal court on Thursday, Dec. 21. Prosecutors said AlSaadi admitted that in August 2023 he possessed three machine gun conversion devices and a Glock handgun that had been modified with such a device. Flood watches or warnings are up for the entire Capital Region with rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches expected through Monday night, Dec. 18, according to the National Weather Service in Albany. A 14-year-old boy is recovering after apparently shooting himself at an apartment complex in the region. The Rensselaer County incident happened Sunday, Nov. 26, in Rensselaer, at the Kinwood Apartments located on Chase Drive. Two suspects, including a 16-year-old boy, are behind bars after allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint in the region. Police in Rensselaer County were called at around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, for a robbery in Troy’s Lansingburgh neighborhood, near 5th Avenue and 112th Street.
