Severe Thunderstorm Watch: Downpours, Hail, 65 MPH Winds, Isolated Tornadoes Possible
As a new round of storms with gusty winds approaches, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the region. It was issued at around 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 3 and lasts until 8 p.m. Monday for the counties in New York and northern New Jersey shown in yellow in the image above.. There are chances of hail and strong winds up to 65 miles per hour, with lighting also possible, the National Weather Service said, noting that severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes. Line Of Storms, Some Severe, Sweeping Through Region
A line of thunderstorms, some severe, is sweeping through the region from west to east. Storm activity first began in northern New Jersey at around 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 16. As of around 2:30 p.m., most of the more powerful storms have been in areas farthest south, with showers falling throughout much of the entire region. (See the satellite image above.)
