Widespread Flooding, Road Closures Reported As Potent Storm Drenches Capital Region
A potent, late autumn storm is bringing flooding and road closures to parts of the region. Flood watches or warnings are up for the entire Capital Region with rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches expected through Monday night, Dec. 18, according to the National Weather Service in Albany. Higher rainfall accumulations are expected on east and southeast-facing slopes of the eastern Catskills. New Update: Missing Capital Region Woman Found
This story has been updated. A woman from the region who had been missing nearly 24 hours has been found. Rensselaer County resident Emily Dziamba, age 30, of North Greenbush, had last been seen at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26. In an update Monday afternoon, Nov. 27, North Greenbush Police said Dziamba was located "safe and sound." Two 18-year-olds are facing charges following an alleged street race in the region that reached speeds over 100 miles per hour before one of the cars crashed. The Rensselaer County incident happened at around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in North Greenbush. Woman Dies In Early Morning House Fire In Capital Region
A woman has died following an early morning house fire in the region. Emergency crews in Rensselaer County were called shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, with reports of a Wynantskill home on fire on Bellemead Street, according to the Wynantskill Fire Department. By the time firefighters arrived, two adults had escaped the home without injury after being woken up by smoke detectors, officials said. Some observant employees at a Capital District bank are being credited with foiling a New York City man’s alleged attempt to fraudulently withdraw tens of thousands of dollars. In Rensselaer County, workers at the Berkshire Bank in North Greenbush called police shortly before 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9, with reports that a man was attempting to withdraw $85,000.
