What began as an animal cruelty investigation ended with nearly a dozen criminal charges, including seven felonies, against a man from the region.
Albany County resident Preston Wido, age 36, of Latham, was indicted on rape, robbery, and nine other charges in Albany County Court on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
Wido was initially arrested by Troy Police in April 2023 after a domestic violence investigation found that he seriously injured a 2-month-old kitten at a home in Lansingburgh, according to police.

Gunman Guilty Of 'Execution-Style' Murder Of 18-Year-Old Woman In Capital Region, Jury Finds
Nearly four years after an 18-year-old woman was found shot to death in the middle of a street in the region, a jury has convicted her killer.
Isaiah Williams, age 25, of Brooklyn, was found guilty of second-degree murder in Rensselaer County Court on Friday, July 21, in the death of Beyonce Wint.
The New York City teen was found shot to death in the early hours of Sunday, Sept. 17, 2019 in Troy’s Lansingburgh neighborhood, in the middle of 111th Street near Fourth Avenue.
She had been shot once in the head in an “execution-style” killing, according to Troy Police.

Missing 13-Year-Old From Capital Region Found Safe, Police Say

A 13-year-old girl who was reported missing in the region has been located, authorities announced.
Rensselaer County resident Francis Jett, of Troy, had last been seen Thursday, Nov. 17, leaving Knickerbocker Middle School in Lansingburgh, the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office said.
On Tuesday, Nov. 22, police said Jett had been found safe and returned home.
“We would like to thank you all for your help and the post shares,” the Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.

'Not Easy To Share': Popular Restaurant Closing Capital Region Location After 60 Years
After six decades of serving hungry customers, a popular restaurant in the region is closing its doors.
Ted’s Fish Fry, which has several locations in the Capital Region, will close its north Troy restaurant, located on 2nd Avenue, the company announced in a Facebook post Monday, Oct. 17.
