Box Truck Hits, Kills 41-Year-Old Man On Capital Region Roadway
A man was struck and killed while walking on a roadway in the region.
The Saratoga County incident happened at around 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, on Route 9 in the town of Halfmoon, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael Blackburn, age 41, was walking along Route 9 near Sitterly Road when he was struck by a box car.
Blackburn, of Clifton Park, was taken to Samaritan Hospital where he died from his injuries, deputies said.
The 41-year-old truck driver, of Saugerties in Ulster County, was not injured and remained at the scene.

A 16-year-old boy from the region is facing criminal charges after allegedly luring a man and robbing him at knifepoint.
The incident happened Tuesday, March 21, in Saratoga County in the Town of Halfmoon, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the teen, who lives in Halfmoon, contacted the victim on Facebook Marketplace and arranged to meet him at a business on Route 9 to buy a cell phone.

Police are renewing calls for tips one year after a man from the region disappeared.
Saratoga County resident Bilal Ashfaq, age 21, of Halfmoon, was last seen on March 16, 2022, on Terminal Road in Halfmoon, not far from the Mohawk River, according to State Police.
Relatives told investigators he went for a walk and never returned home.
Ashfaq is described as an Indian male, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and 225 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a light green hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and red sneakers at the time of his disappearance.

An elderly man from the region is accused of sexually abusing a young child, authorities said.
Saratoga County resident Michael Pajak, age 77, of Halfmoon, was arrested Monday, Nov. 28, following an investigation by State Police and the Albany County Department for Children, Youth, and Families.
Police were initially contacted on Wednesday, Nov. 2, regarding an alleged incident in Halfmoon.
Investigators determined that Pajak had inappropriate sexual contact with a child under the age of 13, according to police.

The owner of a Capital District solar business is facing charges after allegedly forging numerous contracts with another company, authorities said.
Saratoga County resident Brian Stanley, age 41, of Halfmoon, was arrested Friday, Sept. 9, for four counts of forgery and two counts of possession of a forged instrument, all felonies.
State Police began investigating in June 2022 after a Halfmoon business reported that several contracts containing forged signatures had been submitted by Stanley’s company, New York Renewable Energy, Engineering, and Recycling.

A man and woman from the region are facing charges after they allegedly stole over $1,000 worth of merchandise from a Lowe’s store.
Hugo Cabrera, age 46, of Troy, and Justine Tuttle, age 42, of Schodack, were arrested Friday, Sept. 2, on a warrant for felony grand larceny.
State police in Saratoga County were initially called on Tuesday, March 22, with reports of a theft that occurred at the Lowe’s on State Route 146 in Halfmoon a week prior.

Food Bank In Capital District Needs Food, Hygiene Products
An emergency food pantry in the Capital District is reaching out to the community for donations.
In Saratoga County, Karl’s Kupboard in Halfmoon said the need for food and hygiene products in the community is great this time of year, when donations typically wind down after the holidays.
As a result, the New York School Nutrition Association (NYSNA) is hosting a food and hygiene product donation drive all week on the pantry’s behalf, with the goal of collecting “10,000 by the tenth.”
By that, they mean 10,000 pounds of food and $10,000 in donations.
