Super Soaker: Slow-Moving Storm System Brings Drenching Downpours, Flooding To Region
Labor Day marked the unofficial end of summer. It also led to the much-awaited easing of severe drought conditions in much of the region as drenching downpours moved through the region during the afternoon, evening, and overnight hours. And it's not over yet, with plenty more rainfall falling on Tuesday, Sept. 6 as a slow-moving storm system barrels through from the west to the east. Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Capital District
Severe weather could be an issue around the region Thursday, July 28. The National Weather Service in Albany issued a severe thunderstorm watch that included much of the region, including Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Dutchess, Ulster, and Sullivan counties. Forecasters said an approaching cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms to the region, mainly after 4 p.m. Some storms could be severe with damaging winds and heavy rain possible, leading to concerns over flash flooding. Here's Time Frame For Round Of Thunderstorms That Will Bring Relief From Heat
A new round of steamy thunderstorms will bring much-needed relief from one of the most prolonged heat waves the region has seen in years, but not before sweltering conditions last through the weekend. The current projected time frame for the new storm system on Monday, July 25 is from the mid-afternoon to the mid-evening. (See the first image above.) Line Of Severe Thunderstorms Moving West To East With Strong Wind Gusts, Small Hail, Lightning
A line of severe storms is moving through the region from west to east on Saturday afternoon, May 28. Storm activity is expected to continue into early Saturday evening. A slow moving cold front is triggering the system, according to the National Weather Service. Lightning alerts have been issued for parts of the region. It's not over yet. Following scattered severe thunderstorms overnight, a new round of showers and storms is expected to develop on Saturday, May 28. The expected time frame for storm activity from around midday into early Saturday evening. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has just been issued for the region. It's in effect until 8 p.m. Monday, May 16. Scattered storms moving from west to east may produce damaging winds, hail, a few tornadoes, and isolated flash flooding, the National Weather Service said.
