Duo Busted Posing As Rideshare Drivers In Capital Region, Police Say Police are warning Uber and Lyft customers to be on the lookout for fake rideshare drivers. In Saratoga County, the Saratoga Springs Police Department received multiple complaints about people pretending to work for rideshare companies and accepting fares around the Saratoga Racetrack and downtown areas. On Thursday, Aug. 1, the department conducted a targeted enforcement detail in those areas, ultimately arresting one driver and citing another. Man Accused Of Trying To Cash Forged Checks At Bank In Wilton A 48-year-old man was captured after a months-long investigation into identity theft and larceny at a Fairfield County bank.  James Greco, of Wynantskill, New York, located in Rensselaer County, was charged on Tuesday, Nov. 21 on a warrant for the July incident at a Wilton bank. According to Lt. Anna Tornello, of the Wilton Police, Greco entered the bank and forged checks in the victim’s name, and then deposited the cash into other accounts. The arrests took place throughout Sullivan County during September and October. Those charged include: Stephanie Scanna, age 39, of Neversink was arrested and charged on Saturday, Sept. 16 with petit larceny and misuse of food stamps. It is alleged that Scanna stole $380.13 in SNAP benefits from the Sullivan County Department of Social Services by using a benefit card that belonged to a deceased individual. Hudson Valley Man Makes 16 Emergency Calls In Effort To Have Neighbor Evicted, Police Say A man from the region has been charged with allegedly making 16 emergency calls in an effort to get his neighbor evicted.  Ulster County resident Brian P. Johnson, age 47, from the hamlet of Ruby, was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 18 for falsely reporting an incident and criminal impersonation. Chief Kyle S. Berardi of the Ulster Police Department said Johnson was charged following an 18-month investigation stemming from the 16 calls to 911 made between March 2022 and Sept. 2023. Several concerned citizens contacted the Albany Police Department on Monday, Oct. 16, reporting a man who was posing as an Albany cop, according to the agency. The caller told people that they had an outstanding warrant and they needed to make a payment in order to “take care of it.” If payment was not received, he told them, they would be arrested. Fraudster Posing As City Worker Scammed Elderly Victim Out Of $3K, Capital Region Police Say An elderly man from the region was scammed out of thousands of dollars by a fraudster posing as a city worker, authorities said. Rensselaer County resident Joseph Celeone, age 40, of Troy, was arrested Monday, Feb. 6, for grand larceny and criminal impersonation, according to the Watervliet Police Department in Albany County. Detectives were initially contacted in late December 2022 by a 75-year-old Watervliet resident who told police he was approached by a man claiming to work for the City of Watervliet.
