The incident happened at around 10:15 p.m. Sunday, March 26, on I-787 in Albany, according to New York State Police.
Troopers said the woman, identified as Noella Boucher, age 82, of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, Canada, was in the southbound lanes near exit 1 after grabbing her dog when she was struck by a car. She died at the scene.
Boucher’s dog was located a short distance away and later died from its injuries, troopers said.
The driver immediately stopped and remained at the scene, troopers said. They are not expected to face criminal charges.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
