John Riccitello’s Restaurant, located at 1687 Foster Avenue in Schenectady, will serve its last customer on Sunday, Jan. 29, the restaurant announced on Facebook.
“After 55 years of our lives spent at the restaurant, it is time for us to say goodbye,” husband and wife owners Lewis and Donna Riccitello said. “We are sad to go, but excited to see what comes next!
“We sincerely want to thank all our customers who have supported us and stayed with us for so many years. We are so grateful for them for the many lifelong friendships we have made.”
The Riccitellos went on to thank the restaurant’s staff for their years of service and hard work.
“To us they are not staff, but a major part of our family,” they said. “Without them we would have never made it this far. We will miss them and all of you.”
Riccitello’s Restaurant first opened in 1962 after the building was purchased by Lewis Riccitello’s parents, John and Mary, the Daily Gazette reports. John Riccitello died in 1986.
The menu features several classic pasta options, including lasagna, fettuccine alfredo, and spaghetti tossed with fresh plum tomatoes, basil, and garlic.
Diners can also choose from shrimp and chicken entrees, as well as appetizers like steamed clams, clam cocktail, and mozzarella sticks.
Among customer favorites, according to its Yelp page, is the Chicken Riccitello and Linguini Primavera.
News of the impending closure garnered dozens of comments on Facebook, including one from Tina Mazzucco, of Schenectady.
“Can’t imagine Foster Ave or Schenectady without Riccitello’s!” she said. “You absolutely deserve all the best in this next chapter of your life! Wishing you a long, healthy and happy new life chapter!”
The Riccitellos encouraged the community to pay one last visit before the restaurant closes for good.
“If you have time, please stop in and see us before we go,” they wrote.
