ShopRite Murder: Arrest Made In Newark Supermarket Parking Lot Killing A 56-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged on Wednesday, Jan. 29 with fatally stabbing a man in a ShopRite parking lot on Monday, Jan. 27 authorities said. Julius Gaines fatally stabbed Rodney Mayes, a 56-year-old East Orange resident at the ShopRite at 206 Springfield Ave. following a verbal dispute, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emmanuel Miranda said. Gaines is charged with murder in the first degree, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, authorities said.

Newark Sanitation Worker Pointed Handgun At Woman: Police A 42-year-old East Orange resident was arrested and charged with pointing a gun at a woman while working as a sanitation worker in Newark on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 12, authorities said. At 7:16 a.m., police responded to South 14th Street and Springfield Avenue on a report of a man with a gun, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said.  Rahman Grimsley was arrested at the scene following an altercation with a female driver, Miranda said.
