A popular Hillsdale firefighter was found dead in his SUV Thursday in the upper Hackensack River in River Vale after apparently suffering a heart attack, responders said. Rockland Driver With Busted Brake Light Charged With Giving River Vale Officer Bogus License
A Rockland woman was arrested just across the border in River Vale for giving a bogus driver's license to a police officer who stopped her for having a broken brake light, authorities said. Baiba Beitan, 27, who doesn't have a valid license, was stopped on Rivervale Road near Oak Drive, Detective Sgt. Peter Martin said. After handing over the fake license, she was taken to police headquarters in custody, processed and released pending a court hearing, Martin said. A multi-sport athlete from Rockland was drunk when his car jumped a curb, toppled a street sign and slammed into a telephone pole in River Vale, authorities said. Raymond Amato, 22, of Pearl River was behind the wheel of a speeding car on Rivervale Road when an officer pulled behind him shortly before 3 a.m. May 26, police said. A drunken 19-year-old from Hillsdale crashed an SUV into a utility pole in River Vale -- a half-hour after being released to a responsible adult following an underage drinking arrest, police said.
