4/20 Is Last Day Curaleaf Can Sell Recreational Marijuana At 2 NJ Locations
A major marijuana company will be forced to scale back its recreational marijuana sales to just one of its three New Jersey locations. The state Cannabis Regulatory Commission declined on Thursday, April 13 to renew the retail and cultivation licenses for Curaleaf, a self-described "vertically integrated cannabis operator" with a presence in 21 states, according to its website. "All Curaleaf’s dispensaries have active permits to sell medicinal cannabis," the CRC explained to Daily Voice in a statement. North Jersey Cannabis Dispensary Gains State Approval For Legal Weed Sales: Report
Another location of a North Jersey cannabis dispensary has gained state approval to begin selling marijuana to adults. In a 3-2 vote on last week, the state's Cannabis Regulatory Commission voted for the sales expansion of Ascend Wellness in Fort Lee, NJ Advance Media reports. In August, the company began selling recreational marijuana out of its Montclair location, and its Rochelle Park began doing so in April. NJ Voters Approve Weed Legalization Ballot Question
A budding marijuana industry is here to stay in New Jersey. The Associated Press called the race just after 9:39 p.m., with approximately 67 percent of voters in favor of the ballot question, 32 percent against it and 57 percent of votes counted. A bill outlining rules and regulations of the new cannabis industry in New Jersey must still be passed by lawmakers. Sen. Nick Scutari, D-Union said he hopes to introduce a decriminalization …

Cannabis Edible Sales Surge Amid Coronavirus, Report Says
Here’s a first: More people who are legally buying marijuana products for recreational or medicinal use during the coronavirus pandemic are choosing drinks and edibles over smoke, a study shows. Comparing sales from March 7-31 to the more than nine weeks before it, “cannabis-infused beverages jumped from 1% of overall sales to 14%, beating ‘flower’ sales, which is unheard of,” marketing firm Headset reports. Edible sales grew the most, by 28% percent, it says. Meanwhile, sales of pre-rolls and topicals dropped by 13% each, Headset reports. Users are clearly stocking up, experts say. Dri…

Westwood Police Chief Rebuts Mayor: Marijuana Isn't A Partisan Issue, It Doesn't Belong Here
LETTER to the EDITOR: "I was shocked and disappointed to read on the front cover of a local newspaper that I was accused by Mayor John Birkner of being involved in a partisan stunt with respect to the ordinance banning marijuana in Westwood. "Clearly, the marijuana issue is not a partisan one, as both Republican- and Democrat-controlled towns have both banned marijuana and its sales in the confines of their communities. "I have not been contacted by Mayor Birkner at any time about this issue or where my decision was derived from, nor, sadly, has he engaged in any discussion,…

Gov. Murphy Makes Rare Exception For Aspiring 5th Grade Paramus Reporter
Governor Phil Murphy took no questions from the press Wednesday in Paramus at his first town hall meeting since taking office. Except for one. Meet Jack: a fifth grader at West Brook Middle School. The governor knew he was in the audience, diligently taking notes in his notebook. "I know there is a reporter named Jack in this audience," the governor said after addressing the main points of his budget proposal. "Jack, please raise your hand." The aspiring journalist's hand shot up and the governor made his way over to him. "Jack, what's your question?" Wea…
