Two pedestrians were struck at the monument circle in Englewood early Wednesday by a sedan driven by an 88-year-old city resident, authorities said. The men were in the crosswalk at the World War Memorial, crossing West Palisade Avenue from Bennett Road toward Tenafly Road, when they were struck by the 2000 Toyota Corolla as it headed east on West Palisade shortly after 7:30 a.m., Lt. An 83-year-old pedestrian from Waldwick was hospitalized -- and got a ticket -- after she was struck in Hackensack by an SUV driven by an 80-year-old Westwood woman, authorities said. The victim needed ankle surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center after she was struck on Berry Street by a Ford Edge whose driver had made a left from southbound State Street at 2:17 p.m. Sunday, Police Lt. Anthony Natale said. Police issued a summons to the pedestrian for jaywalking, Natale said.

Man Seriously Hurt After Being Struck By Pickup Truck While Crossing Rt. 80, State Police Say
A 49-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after he was struck by a pickup truck while attempting to cross Route 80 Saturday night, state police said. Michael Gachko, of Summit, had parked his vehicle on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes before entering the highway and crossing over to the westbound lanes, where he was struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck near milepost 36.6 in Rockaway Township just before 9:50 p.m., NJSP Trooper Brandi Slota told DailyVoice.com. A 79-year-old Ridgefield Park pedestrian who was struck by a van while in a crosswalk Friday died of her injuries, authorities said. The 67-year-old Ford van driver from Westwood made a left into Sima Nightingale as she crossed at the corner of Main and Mount Vernon streets shortly after 9:30 a.m., Police Lt. Art Jensen said. Support is surging for a Gloucester High School senior struck and killed by a vehicle while walking to school Friday. Christopher Kuhnel Jr., 17, was hit by a pickup truck at 7:26 a.m. Friday at Somerset Street and Johnson Boulevard, Gloucester City police said in a press statement. A 15-year-old Elmwood Park boy was hospitalized after being struck by a sedan Sunday afternoon in Saddle Brook, authorities said. A witness said the teen was dashing across the street when he was struck by what Capt. Marinus Lalumia, of Van Orden Place, was pronounced at the scene after a 2017 Honda HR-V driven by a 21-year-old Paterson man struck him as he crossed Hazel Street across from the Daughters of Miriam Center shortly before 8:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities said. A pedestrian was struck and killed in the fast lane of Route 4 in Englewood overnight Sunday, authorities confirmed. A Honda struck Jorge Reyes Tapia, 42, of the Bronx in the westbound lane near Van Brunt Street shortly after 1 a.m., Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton said. Old Tappan Man, 23, Struck, Killed By Jeep In Brooklyn
A pedestrian who was struck and killed by a Jeep in downtown Brooklyn on Thursday was identified as a 23-year-old Old Tappan man. Joseph Fernandez was crossing the Flatbush Avenue extension at Gold Street when he was struck shortly after 6:30 a.m., the NYPD said. An ambulance took Fernandez to Brooklyn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 67-year-old driver of the 2017 Jeep remained at the scene. No charges were immediately filed, authorities said. Fernandez was graduated from Northern Valley Regional High School and attended the University of Rhode Island.
