Route 208 Fatal: Dover Woman, 78, Killed, Husband, 80, Hospitalized In Horrific Crash (Update)
UPDATE: Authorities identified a driver killed in a horrific Labor Day crash on Route 208 as a 78-year-old woman from Dover and the injured passenger as her 80-year-old husband.
Carmen Traverso was pronounced dead at the scene, Hawthorne Police Capt. Robert King said Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Pablo Traverso, meanwhile, was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, the captain said.
The couple's 2014 Toyota Camry careened off the road and up an embankment, where it slammed into a tree on the southbound highway just north of Goffle Road shortly after noon Monday.

Hawthorne police who found 1,100 heroin folds in a stopped Jeep said the upstate New York driver told them that she and two men had come more than 135 miles to Paterson with a 2-year-old infant in the car "to get Spanish food."
Victoria Declemente, 29, of Stamford, NY “appeared very nervous” when she was stopped on Goffle Road near Mohawk Avenue for several violations, Detective Sgt. Matthew Hoogmoed said.
After claiming they’d driven all that way to Paterson for food, Declemente couldn’t remember exactly where, Hoogmoed said.
Eventually, she admitted they’d come to buy drugs, he said.

Prosecutor Investigating Snow Remover's Plunge Through Route 208 Bridge
UPDATE: Authorities were investigating why a snow removal machine plunged through a pedestrian bridge, smashing into a van and seriously injuring its two occupants on Route 208 below.
Both van occupants -- Patrick O'Dell, 64, and John DesLauriers, 22, both of Hawthorne -- remained at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson on Tuesday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Hawthorne Police Chief Richard McAuliffe said.The operator of the 4,100-pound Bobcat S100, 42-year-old Don Turner Jr., also of Hawthorne, was released after being treated following the incident.
