Paterson Detectives Seize Ex-Con, Loaded Gun, High-Capacity Mag Following Chase
An ex-con from Philadelphia tossed a gun with a high-capacity magazine onto a roof while being chased by detectives in Paterson, authorities said.
It began as Detectives Kenneth Kerwin, John Traynor and Wojciech Kulbabinski approached a group gathered in front of a convenience store at the corner of Madison and Essex streets, city Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said.
As they did, former Paterson resident Billy Souverain began tipping away, Speziale said.

A 19-year-old Paterson man who bolted as city detectives approached dozens of people drinking on a street corner was carrying a loaded gun with a defaced serial number, authorities said.

ID Thieves Had Dozens Of Fake DLs, Debit Cards, Social Security Cards, More: Hawthorne PD
A New York City couple who both tried giving Hawthorne police fake IDs during a traffic stop had a trove of phony driver’s licenses, debit cards, Social Security cards and checks in other people’s names with them, authorities said.
Various violations led police to stop their 2006 BMW 525, which had a temporary registration tag that didn’t belong to the vehicle, on Rea Avenue near Goffle Road around 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, Detective Lt. Matthew Hoogmoed said.

Pompton Lakes police captured a known ex-con and his female companion, both from town, moments after they robbed a local convenience store at knifepoint, authorities said.
Brian Tagliaferro, 32, robbed the Ringwood Avenue store around 4 p.m. Friday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Pompton Lakes Police Chief Derek Clark said in a joint release.

Three Caught, One Sought: Passaic Sheriff's Detectives Seize More Than 16,000 Heroin Folds
A manhunt was underway for a 20-year-old drug defendant from Paterson who nearly struck a Passaic County sheriff’s detective with his vehicle and then tossed bricks of heroin out the window as he fled before crashing in Hawthorne, authorities said.
The wanted man, Jahmahli Carnegie, was one of three defendants who bought heroin for distribution from Kasheem Smith, 28, near his North 7th Street home, Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.
In Carnegie's car police found some more heroin, $1,231 in proceeds and his NJ Motor Vehicle Commission ID card, the sheriff said.

Passaic County sheriff's officers nabbed a Paterson ex-con with two guns, an ounce and a half of cocaine and some pot, along with packaging materials, scales and a customer ledger, authorities said.
Detectives watched as Miguel Medina, 37, sold to a 57-year-old Fair Lawn man at the corner of 3rd Avenue and East 17th Street, Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.
Investigators followed the buyer into Fair Lawn, where they arrested him, the sheriff said.
