Bloomingdale Proposes Ban On Unregulated Pipelines To Counter Pilgrim

BLOOMINGDALE, N.J. -- In an effort to curb unregulated pipeline expansion in the borough, administrators in Bloomingdale have introduced an ordinance to prohibit the construction of these pipes without government oversight, according to a NorthJersey.com article.

According to the article, the movement has largely been fueled by resident's opposition to a proposed 178 mile Pilgrim Pipeline from Linden to Albany, N.Y. Gregory Goellner, a borough resident for more than three decades, explained how non-public pipelines are often not subject to the same regulations and ordinances as public utilities.

In association with Coalition Against Pilgrim Pipeline (CAPP), many residents are proposing new zoning ordinances to prohibit the building of a pipeline blocks from residential buildings. According to Mayor Jonathan Dunleavy, a public hearing and final adoption of the ordinance will be held on Oct. 20.
